Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital (RSMH) is proud to announce the Mother and Baby unit in Onancock has been recognized as a Gold Safe Sleep Certified Hospital by Cribs for Kids. Gold level certification is the top achievement and is based on the hospital’s efforts in community education in addition to providing safe sleep education for families.

The gold certification demonstrates RSMH models and teaches infant safe sleep habits to reduce the risk of sudden unexpected infant death (SUID), accidental suffocation and strangulation in bed (ASSB), sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and unsafe sleep injuries. Program rigor is developed according to the most current American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) evidence-based policies and in consultation with medical experts from the AAP Safe Sleep Task Force.

The gold certification builds on bronze and silver certifications, which focus on the basics to establish safe sleep training, refining hospital policies and offering extensive family education.

“We are so proud of our Mother/Baby team for their unwavering support of safe sleep and safer babies,” says Nick Chuquin, President of Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital. “Our community and the Eastern Shore’s smallest residents deserve nothing less than high-quality, safe and compassionate care.”
