Ginger's Story

You don't have to walk far through Ginger Rowe's yard to see, and smell, what she loves.

Colorful annuals and flowering perennials from Brent & Becky's Bulbs greet you at the driveway. Flourishing knock out roses bring pops of color to the lawn. And a flowing grape vine lines the edge of her property, leading from the welcoming front yard to the blooming back yard where tomatoes grow in the summer.

"I love to work in my yard," she said. "It's my therapy."

So when the pain in her knee escalated to the point where she could no longer bend down to plant, weed and enjoy the outdoors, she knew it was time to consider a knee replacement.

"It was my first major surgery," Rowe said. "And I was a little apprehensive. But the experience was just absolutely wonderful."

That experience was highlighted by the team at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital, Rowe said. That includes every nurse who cared for her and, especially, Dr. David Muron.

"Dr. Muron asked me if the surgery was better or worse than I anticipated," Rowe said. "I told him it was better. I was prepared for a lot more pain than I actually had. I had my surgery on November 2, 2015, and by the end of the month I was walking around without a cane or a walker.

"As for working in her yard, Rowe is back to that now, too.

"I just love putting all these beautiful flowers in the ground and watching them flourish," Rowe said. "I'm grateful to be able to do that again."

"Grateful especially," she said, "to God and Dr. Muron."

"I didn't need anything more."
