Our neurosurgical team works closely with the Riverside Cancer Care team to care for those with malignant and benign brain or spinal tumors. Learn more about the different types of tumors we regularly see as well as the different procedures, such as radiosurgery and cranial surgery, our neurosurgical team performs.
Our neurosurgeons regularly perform cranial surgery, also known as brain surgery, to care for patients with a variety of conditions. The most common reasons for this type of procedure include brain tumors, aneurysms, head injuries and infections.
Cranial nerve disorders, such as trigeminal neuralgia, can be extremely painful. If medical management of the condition is not effective, there are surgical options, including radiosurgery, that might be able to help.
Functional neurosurgery refers to a group of procedures and surgeries performed with the goal of improving the quality of life for someone living with a chronic neurologic condition.
Currently, our functional neurosurgery team offers two procedures that help patients manage symptoms of Essential Tremors and Parkinson’s Disease: Deep Brain Stimulation and MRI Focused Guided Ultrasound. We also provide care for patients with epilepsy through the use of a vagus nerve stimulator.
Neurovascular specialists are neurosurgeons or neurologists who have completed additional fellowship training in minimally invasive procedures in the brain’s blood vessels. These neurovascular procedures are used to care for people experiencing certain types of stroke to as well as to treat aneurysms and vascular malformations.
Our neurosurgeons are trained in all types of neurologic surgery, including the peripheral nerves (nerves that go down the arms or legs). Types of conditions include carpal tunnel syndrome, tarsal tunnel syndrome, nerve issues from tumors as well as any nerve injuries from trauma.
Our goal is always to provide the least invasive treatment possible that will address your condition. Our physiatry team are experts in physical medicine, rehabilitation and pain management. These noninvasive or minimally invasive approaches could include treatments such as physical therapy, steroid injections or nerve stimulators.
Stereotactic radiosurgery is the use of precisely controlled radiation to target areas of the brain and spine. Gamma Knife is used to treat brain tumors, both malignant (cancerous) and benign (non-cancerous), as well as facial nerve conditions and vascular malformations. Varian Edge stereotactic body radiosurgery (SBRT) is used to treat tumors elsewhere in the body, including spinal tumors.
From outpatient procedures to complex spinal fusions, our neurosurgeons are uniquely qualified for the precise surgical treatment of spinal conditions. Learn more about spinal conditions and surgeries.
