About Dean Borissov Kostov, MD

Dr. Kostov is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Kostov completed his General Surgery Internship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center then continued at UPMC to finish his residency in Neurological Surgery. In 2010, he finalized a fellowship in Neuroendovascular Neurosurgery also from UPMC, one of the nation's leading programs in this endovascular subspecialty. Dr. Kostov is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery.

Dr. Kostov is now an attending neurosurgeon and neuroendovascular specialist at Riverside Regional Medical Center where the health system's comprehensive, regional Center for Neurosciences is located. Dr. Kostov specializes in cranial and spine surgeries as well as stereotactic and endovascular procedures. He focuses on less-invasive treatments, education and care of the "whole patient," considering it both a privilege and responsibility to care for patients and their families when they are at their most vulnerable.

Dr. Kostov is married with two sons and enjoys skiing, windsurfing and cycling. He grew up on the West Coast and later settled here after training in Pittsburgh. He appreciates the feeling of community and enjoys living in Hampton Roads.
