Sharing experiences, challenges, talking about fears and celebrating triumphs can be beneficial to the healing process. Riverside encourages patients, their friends and families to seek the support of those in similar circumstances who can provide a helpful hand, a listening ear or a contagious laugh.

Our providers act as resources for support groups that meet in the local area. Research shows that support groups can reduce anxiety and its negative effects on overall patient health.

When: 4th Wednesday of every month, 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

There are several Alzheimer's support groups that meet locally to connect caregivers, family members and friends of those with dementia.

This group is for individuals who have suffered a brain injury. This support group emphasizes the social, emotional and psychological aspects of the brain injury recovery process and meets at Riverside Rehabilitation Hospital.

This Williamsburg area support group is for people who have brain injuries due to trauma (TBI), stroke, aneurysm, tumor, disease, or other neurological incident. Family and friends are also welcomed

The caregiver support group, conducted by trained facilitators, is a safe and supportive place for caregivers, family members and friends of patients with Frontotemporal Dementia to learn about educational topics such as disease information, legal matters, driving, and other concerns. This group is designed to build a support network of people who understand.

Although primarily for current Riverside Rehabilitation Hospital patients who have had a stroke and their family members, this group also welcomes survivors and their caregivers in the community. The group provides education on stroke such as types of strokes, symptoms, risk factors, effects of stroke and lifestyle changes to prevent recurrent stroke.
