The young women of Troop 1295 sold cookies and wanted to donate a portion of their earnings to a worthy, local cause. After a troop-wide vote, they chose the Riverside Regional Medical Center Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

The girls were inspired to help both babies and their families who begin life with extra challenges and the compassionate care team members who support them and their families every day. Their gift reflects their generosity, empathy and desire to have their donation make a difference close to home.

To highlight the impact of their gift, Dr. John Alex, Medical Director of the Riverside Simulation Training Lab (RSTL), invited the Scouts to a NICU demonstration at the Huntington Ingalls Industries Education & Training Center, which houses the simulation lab. NICU Nurses Kaylee Arsenault and Sara Hamblin showed the scouts some of the RSTL’s most advanced manakins, incubators and talked them through how these training tools help equip NICU nurses to treat Riverside’s youngest and most vulnerable patients.

During their visit, the Scouts listened attentively and asked thoughtful questions, their enthusiasm and admiration evident as they observed the tiny, delicate manikins.

The Girl Scout’s donation goes directly to the NICU team, helping to fund innovations and new technology like:

  • The Evacub Baby Transporter (pictured)
  • Arctic Sun Temperature Management System
  • Supplies like swings, pack n plays and car seats for underserved NICU families

Thank you, Troop 1295 for your donation, and your time to learn about our NICU and the SimLab. Your donation helps NICU care go from good, to great.
