Riverside Health is excited to offer summer sports performance clinics, tailored to help middle school, high school, and collegiate student-athletes stay at the top of their game during the off-season. Designed to build strength, improve agility, and reduce injury risk, these structured programs provide a high-impact training environment when traditional team activities may slow down.
All clinics are led by Riverside’s experienced performance specialists and physical therapists and include regular assessments to track progress and tailor programming to individual goals. In addition to the physical benefits, the clinics also offer young athletes’ structure, accountability, and a chance to build confidence in their own abilities. Clinics are available at the Riverside Sports Physical Therapy clinic in Newport News.
“These programs are designed to keep our student-athletes in shape and on top of their game during the summer months,” said Kinston Carson, Sports Performance Specialist at Riverside Health. “We provide an environment that’s structured, motivating, and individualized — whether an athlete is preparing for preseason, recovering from an injury, or just looking to stay fit and competitive.”
The 2025 summer clinic season runs from Monday, June 23 through September 12, with training sessions offered Monday through Thursday at 4:30 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. Three specialized small-group training tracks are available:
- Velocity Vault: A high-energy program focused on speed, agility, and quickness. Athletes will learn proper sprint mechanics, work on vertical jump development, and train for rapid direction changes — all while learning strategies to reduce the risk of common injuries.
- Savage Strength: This strength-focused program is built around progressive overload and resistance training, helping athletes improve overall muscle mass, core stability, and functional power.
- Peak Power: A hybrid training model that blends the best of both programs — Velocity Vault and Savage Strength — into one high-performance class. Participants will target speed, agility, and strength in one cohesive, full-body regimen.
“Taking a break from organized sports doesn’t mean taking a break from fitness,” said John LaRue, Sports Physical Therapy & Performance Director. “Our summer programs give athletes the tools they need to continue progressing. By focusing on proper mechanics, strength training, and movement quality, we’re not only helping them get faster and stronger — we’re helping them reduce their risk of injury when the season starts back up.”
In addition to group sessions, 1-on-1 performance training is also available for athletes seeking individualized attention and customized programming. Spots are limited and registration closes Friday, June 20. To register or learn more, please visit the sports performance clinic page.
