The Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association (VHHA) recently presented Riverside Health System Chairman Alan S. Witt with a 2019 Outstanding Service Award for “Excellence in Governance.” The award honors members of health system governing bodies in Virginia who have a history of making significant contributions to the health care field, on both a state and local level, through commitment to service and leadership.

VHHA’s Outstanding Service Awards are presented annually and recognize individuals who have made a real difference for hospitals and health systems, and to health care in general, by being selfless, energetic and passionate.

Witt has served on the Riverside Health System board since 2001. In addition to his position as chairman, Witt is also partner and CEO at PBMares, one of the top 100 accounting and consulting firms in the nation. Witt brings his business acumen, collaborative spirit and love for community to bear for Riverside.

“It is truly a privilege to serve with the people of Riverside Health System, who are so dedicated to the noble mission of caring for others as they care for the ones they love,” said Witt. “I am honored to receive this award on behalf of the entire Riverside team who are role models as stewards of exceptional health care.”

The “Excellence in Governance” award is the latest in a string of accomplishments and accolades earned by Witt, who also serves on the boards of the Hampton Roads Business Roundtable, Reinvent Hampton Roads, TowneBank, the Peninsula Community Foundation and the Virginia Chamber of Commerce.

He also works with other organizations that focus on transportation, industrial development, education, politics, finance and audit, and he previously served as a Newport News City Council member.

A strong believer in community service, Witt has earned the Peninsula Humanitarian Award from the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities, the 2016 Community Builders Award, Bremond Lodge No. 241, the Distinguished Community Service Award from the Rotary Club of Oyster Point, the Daily Press Citizen of the Year Award, VSCPA’s Public Servant of the Year, CNU Outstanding Alumnus Accounting Chair #1, and CNU College of Business and Economics’ Outstanding Alumni Award.

In addition, he was proud to serve as Honorary Chairman of the Achievable Dream 24th Annual Tennis Ball gala.

Witt earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from Christopher Newport University.
