Riverside Health System is proud to announce that Riverside Walter Reed Hospital (RWRH) earned its fourth consecutive top mark, “A,” for patient safety performance in the Spring 2021 Hospital Safety Grade Scores by The Leapfrog Group, an independent, national watchdog organization committed to healthcare quality and safety. This national distinction recognizes Riverside’s passion for providing empathetic care to the community.

“Patient safety is an ongoing priority for our team, and as the pandemic continues, our staff has been as dedicated as ever to ensuring patients are being cared for with the utmost compassion,” said Dr. Esther Desimini, president of Riverside Walter Reed Hospital. “We’re proud to receive an ‘A,’ for the fourth year in a row. It’s a huge testament to the empathy we devote to our patients, and the efforts we’ve made to care for others as we would care for those we love. Regardless of circumstances, we want our patients to always feel safe inside our doors, and we’re honored to hear that they do.”

The Leapfrog Safety Grade is becoming the gold standard measure of patient safety. Their Safety Grade assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to all general hospitals across the country. The Grade uses up to 27 national performance measures from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Leapfrog Hospital Survey and information from other supplemental data resources. It is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospitals’ prevention of medical errors and other harms to patients in their care.

“It’s clear Riverside Walter Reed Hospital is on a never-ending quest to keep patients safe through thick and thin,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “This likely saved many lives through the pandemic and prepared for future health emergencies. I thank the team members at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital for leadership and inspiration in these trying times.”

RWRH continuously assesses the quality of care internally and evolves to ensure it effectively enhances consumer’s well-being and improves their health.
