April is Celebrate Diversity Month, a time to celebrate and recognize unique cultures and traditions. To honor Celebrate Diversity Month, Riverside Health System is excited to announce a virtual panel discussion, Cultural Humility: Valuing and Respecting Differences Between and Within Cultures, on Thursday, April 20, 2023, from 5-6:30 p.m.
The panel will bring together leaders from Riverside and the community to discuss firsthand accounts of how cultural humility has impacted them. The presentation will offer participants cultural competency mitigation strategies to inform and educate others.
“Respect for and understanding of other cultures in health care is so important because it provides space for improved patient-provider communication and evaluating alternatives to services and treatment to address the specific needs of diverse individuals,” says Toiya Sosa, Chief Diversity Officer at Riverside Health System. “This allows our team members to live our mission – caring for others as we would care for those we love.”
The panel will feature insights from:
- Jesse Goodrich, Senior Vice President of Human Resources at Riverside Health System
- Michael Oshiki, M.D., President of Riverside Regional Medical Center
- Jessica Macalino, Associate Vice President of Operations at Riverside Regional Medical Center
- Ehsun Mirza, M.D., Service Line Chief of Critical Care and Pulmonary Medicine, Riverside Health System
- Mark Johnson, Vice President, Community Development Manager, Truist
- Felicia Blow, PhD, APR, Associate Vice President for Development, Hampton University
The discussion will be co-moderated by Toiya Sosa, Associate Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer at Riverside Health System, and Vidal Dickerson, Special Assistant to the President/Chief Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer at Christopher Newport University.
