Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital earns Pathways to Excellence designation

November 01, 2018

Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital (RSMH) has achieved Pathway to Excellence designation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

Riverside Shore Memorial is one of eight hospitals in VA and 166 in the nation to achieve Pathway designation.

The Pathway to Excellence designation identifies what it takes to create a work environment where nurses can flourish. The designation validates that Riverside Shore is one of the best places for nurses to work, and it reflects the commitment Riverside has made to its nurses, their well-being, growth and professional development.

“At Riverside we pride ourselves on being a great place to work, where the patient is truly at the core of what we focus on each and every day. Our nurses are deeply committed to the delivery of safe, quality, compassionate care. The Pathway designation demonstrates our positive nursing culture, and where nurses flourish, patient care excels,” said Deb Brown, Nursing Executive at RMSH.

To earn the Pathway to Excellence distinction, hospitals must adhere to criteria that have been proven through research to support a good work environment. Designation shows that RSMH is committed to supporting nurses as a vital member of the health care team, to understanding what nurses identify as important to their ability to do their jobs well, and to valuing nurses’ contributions in the workplace. Designation publicly confirms that nurses working for Riverside know that their efforts are supported and encourages other nurses to join Riverside in pursuit of their profession.

Nurses Senora Ruffin and Cheryl Warren, both of whom have had laudable careers in nursing leadership at RSMH, led the team through the multi-year designation process. “Becoming designated took the dedication and collaboration of not only the Riverside nursing team but also the entire hospital team,” said Ruffin.

The Shore hospital joins sister hospitals Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News and Riverside Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester in being designated.
