Last week, Riverside Walter Reed Hospital hosted an open house to celebrate the completion of the newly expanded Riverside Cancer Care Center Gloucester, marking a significant milestone in the region’s ongoing commitment to advancing cancer care. The event welcomed community members, team members and medical providers to tour the new space and learn more about the high-quality, personalized cancer treatment available close to home as part of Riverside Health’s broader mission to continually enhance patient experience.
The project, which began in early 2024, has significantly upgraded the facility’s capabilities, increasing oncology infusion capacity from 12 to 16 semi-private bays and adding a private treatment room to better meet the growing demand for care. The semi-private bays ensure each patient has a more personal, calming environment during treatment. Each bay includes a comfortable infusion chair and a dedicated guest chair, making it easier for loved ones to accompany patients during their appointments. Additional upgrades include two new restrooms and two nourishment stations for patients and guests, further supporting comfort during treatment visits.
“This multi-year expansion of the Riverside Cancer Care Center Gloucester reflects Riverside’s long-standing commitment to delivering high-quality, personalized, and accessible care. The center offers medical and radiation oncology services, ensuring patients receive comprehensive cancer care close to home,” said Linda McKee, Associate Vice President of Riverside Cancer Care Network. “At Riverside, we believe cancer care should be deeply personal, so we designed this space to improve every aspect of the patient experience. More treatment bays and enhanced facilities will offer a more comfortable setting, giving patients the space to have their support network by their side every step of the way.”
“We are proud to serve as a trusted resource in our community, standing alongside our patients and their families through every step of their cancer journey,” says Shelly Johnson, President Riverside Walter Reed Hospital. “This expansion is more than a facility upgrade, it's a reflection of our deep commitment to delivering care that is not only compassionate but also clinically excellent, right here where our patients live and work.”
