The Riverside Simulation Training Lab (RSTL) has been recognized for the second year by Becker’s Healthcare as one of the nation's top medical simulation training and education programs. This prestigious honor highlights the lab’s commitment to advancing health care education and clinical skill development for medical professionals. By providing a state-of-the-art, hands-on learning environment, RSTL plays a crucial role in ensuring team members can confidently and safely refine their skills, ultimately improving patient care and clinical outcomes.
Located at Riverside Regional Medical Center in the Huntington Ingalls Industries Education & Training Center, the 8,400-square-foot facility serves as a vital resource for ongoing clinical training. It provides immersive, hands-on learning experiences for medical residents, Riverside providers, team members, and community partners.
The RSTL was established in 2020 in memory of Dr. Brandon D. Rogers, a former Riverside family medicine resident whose passion for medical education and patient care left a lasting impact. Tragically, Dr. Rogers passed away before completing his residency. His family, in partnership with the Riverside Foundation, Riverside Medical Staff, and community donors, helped bring this facility to life, ensuring that his vision of advancing medical education continues to inspire future generations of health care professionals.
“This recognition highlights the innovative work happening every day within our simulation lab,” said John Alex, M.D., Medical Director of the Riverside Simulation Training Lab. “By continually investing in hands-on, immersive training, we help ensure our care teams are prepared to meet real-world challenges and provide the highest standard of care.”
The Riverside Simulation Training Lab features four dedicated clinical areas, including a Medical/Surgical/Intensive Care Ward, Labor & Delivery Room, Emergency Medicine and Trauma Bay, and a Procedural Skills Suite. Utilizing a range of advanced simulation modalities and an integrated Audio-Visual learning management system with debriefing capabilities, the lab delivers a robust and immersive educational experience.
“The lab represents what’s possible when education, philanthropy, and community partnership come together with a shared purpose,” said Michael Oshiki, M.D., President of Riverside Regional Medical Center. “Its continued recognition by Becker’s reflects not only the strength of the program, but also the meaningful role it plays in supporting our clinical teams not only at Riverside but throughout our community.”
The RSTL has been granted Full Accreditation in Teaching and Education from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare™, further reinforcing its role as a leader in clinical education. As the demand for highly skilled health care professionals continues to grow, Riverside Health remains dedicated to fostering clinical excellence and preparing providers to deliver the best possible care.
