Honoring Alan Witt and Dr. David Fitzgerald Jones
At this year’s RemarkaBall, Riverside Foundation is proud to celebrate two individuals whose leadership, service and unwavering commitment have shaped the health and well-being of our communities. We are honored to name Alan Witt as our 2025 Citizen of the Year, and Dr. David Fitzgerald Jones as our 2025 Provider of the Year.
2025 Citizen of the Year
A champion of progress across the Peninsula and the Commonwealth, Alan Witt has spent a lifetime strengthening institutions and advancing opportunities across our region. His legacy includes more than 20 years of service on the Riverside Health Board—16 of those as Chair—where he guided major milestones including the construction of Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Onancock, Virginia, and the development of Riverside Doctors’ Hospital Williamsburg. He also played a key role in establishing RHS MedInsur, providing essential protection for health care professionals, and continues to serve on its board.
Guided by a deep belief in giving back, Alan and his wife Debbie have been steadfast supporters of philanthropy. Their shared commitment helped Riverside Foundation grow in reach and impact—ensuring that care, innovation and community support extend far beyond hospital walls. Alan’s broader record of public service includes leadership roles across Christopher Newport University, TowneBank, the Virginia Chamber of Commerce and numerous state and regional organizations.
2025 Provider of the Year
Dr. David Fitzgerald Jones is a dedicated physician leader who has served the Eastern Shore community for more than 30 years. A board-certified specialist in internal medicine, pulmonary disease and critical care, he brings deep expertise and a strong sense of responsibility to his role. As a native of the Shore, Dr. Jones considers it a privilege to care for the community that shaped him.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Jones was elected by his peers to serve as President of the Riverside Medical Group Board, where he helps guide the vision and direction of more than 850 providers across the health system. Along with his wife Traci, he is also a committed supporter of Riverside Foundation—giving back because he sees every day how philanthropy improves care for his patients and neighbors.
Both Alan Witt and Dr. David Jones embody the very best of Riverside Health’s mission: to care for others as we would care for those we love. Through their vision, dedication and belief in something greater than themselves, they remind us what’s possible when leadership meets compassion.
This year’s RemarkaBall will also feature a special celebration of Riverside Smithfield Hospital, opening January 2026, as we honor the future of care alongside these remarkable leaders.
Please join us in honoring these extraordinary individuals—and in celebrating the next chapter of Riverside Health—at the 2026 RemarkaBall.
