Riverside Health is expanding advanced urologic care as the first health system in Hampton Roads to offer the HYDROS™ Robotic System, a next-generation, AI-powered platform used to deliver Aquablation® therapy for men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), commonly known as an enlarged prostate.

With the addition of the HYDROS Robotic System, Riverside is offering Aquablation therapy as a minimally invasive treatment option that has been clinically proven to relieve urinary symptoms while preserving sexual function and continence.

BPH is a common condition that affects millions of men as they age and can significantly interfere with daily life. Symptoms often include frequent or urgent urination, difficulty emptying the bladder, and waking multiple times at night to urinate. Without treatment, BPH can lead to more serious complications, including bladder damage, kidney problems, and incontinence.

“A lot of men delay care because they worry about the side effects,” said Dr. Scott Burgess, Urologist with Riverside Urology Specialists. “Aquablation therapy offers an effective, durable solution that removes the obstructing prostate tissue while helping preserve the functions that matter most to our patients.”

Aquablation therapy uses a heat-free, robotically controlled waterjet guided by real-time ultrasound imaging. This allows the surgeon to create a personalized treatment plan based on each patient’s anatomy, precisely targeting the tissue causing symptoms while protecting surrounding structures.

“This technology aligns perfectly with Riverside’s commitment to invest in the latest technologies to improve patient care and bring innovative treatment options to our communities,” said Doug Culbert, Associate Vice President of General Surgery and Orthopedics. “By offering Aquablation therapy with HYDROS system, we’re expanding options for men who want relief from symptoms without compromising quality of life.”

Aquablation therapy is available at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia. Patients experiencing symptoms of an enlarged prostate are encouraged to talk with their primary care provider or urologist to determine if Aquablation therapy may be appropriate.
