Riverside Doctors' Hospital Williamsburg is pleased to announce the launch of self-service meal ordering for patients using the CBORD Patient app.  The app offers self-service meal options and interactive nutrition education by connecting to a device to Riverside’s nutrition system. The uniqueness of this capability will allow patients and their loved ones to be more interactive in their care.

“The introduction of the CBORD Patient app continues our goal of providing comfort, care and convenience to our patients and their loved ones,” said Adria Vanhoozier, president of Riverside Doctors’ Hospital Williamsburg. “We are always thinking of ways to extend care to fit the unique needs of Williamsburg. As a strong retiree community, we recognize that loved ones may not always live nearby. Through the CBORD app, we provide another, simple way to show support and deepen the connection between care and community.”

Designed with the help of dietitians, the CBORD app allows patients and their families to make decisions about their meals and control part of their hospital experience by letting users participate in their nutrition and learn how meal choices impact their wellness.

Patients who are admitted to Riverside Doctors' Hospital Williamsburg can download the app for free for iOS (iPhone) and Android devices from their app stores and log in using the CBORD Patient App. From there, patients or patients’ loved ones can create a profile, browse the menu and place food orders. Only foods that are appropriate for their current diet are displayed with controls in place to limit the number of choices. If a patient is on a nutrient-controlled diet (e.g., fluid, carbohydrate, protein, etc.) the app will guide the patient’s menu choices and prevent them from exceeding their limit.

“We are excited to offer this new technology to our patients and their loved ones as a way to give them choice in their nutrition needs while also educating them on the importance of diet in the recovery process,” said Toni Watkins, system director of food, nutrition & environmental services.  “The addition of this app as a tool places the power of choice in the patients’ hands while simultaneously providing loved ones with the opportunity to offer a sign of support that plays an integral role in the recovery process.”

Patients and loved ones will be able to use the CBORD Patient app to order meals starting Wednesday, August 17th.
