Riverside Health Foundation Announces New Scholarship Fund in Tappahannock Named for Dr Jeffrey Hask

Jeffrey Haskins Tappahannock, Va. – In honor of Jeffrey Haskins, M.D., a urologist with Riverside Medical Group who faithfully served the Tappahannock and Northern Neck community for more than 25 years, the Riverside Health Foundation is pleased to announce it has created a new scholarship fund in his name.

The fund launched in October 2019 thanks to the donations made by Riverside Tappahannock Hospital team members, physicians and board members in memory of Haskins.

Along with community contributions, the fund currently has over $12,000 to fund scholarships for Riverside team members and volunteers in pursuit of furthering medical education.

“As we talked about how to use the funds that were donated in his honor, we knew we wanted to build a lasting way to keep his memory alive,” said Riverside Tappahannock Hospital President Liz Martin. “We decided to do something that would live forever, and would serve to inspire people for years to come.” Haskins not only served the community as a long-time physician, but he was a mentor to many. He embodied the Riverside mission and lived by example the promise to care for others as you would care for those you love.

“He brought his experiences from training and working in an academic environment to our little hospital, reminding us always to make the patient the focus of everything we do,” Martin said.

He brought a sense of hope, warmth, compassion, and often a little humor, as a familiar and much-beloved member of the team at Riverside Tappahannock Hospital. “He touched everyone in unique ways,” Martin said. “He always took a personal interest in everyone he met. He’d look to find something special about you, and then he would use that specialness to create a bond with you.”

Applicants to the “Dr. Jeffrey Haskins Memorial Scholarship” must be a past or present volunteer at Riverside Tappahannock Hospital, or a current team member in the Tappahannock and Northern Neck region, and embody the Riverside mission. Awards from the scholarship fund can range from $500 to $2,000. Donations will continue to be accepted to the fund to help create a sustainable scholarship fund that will pay dividends to students well into the future.

“Our hope,” Martin said, “is that while honoring the contributions of Dr. Haskins to the health and well-being of our community, we can support health care providers and volunteers pursing their educational goals.”
