Riverside Sports Physical Therapy

Riverside Health System has launched an enhanced physical therapy experience with the addition of several sports physical therapy clinics. Based at three physical therapy locations including Hampton, Williamsburg, and a newly renovated site at Newport News, the sports physical therapy clinics will offer a specialized approach to rehabilitation of sports-related injuries as well as performance training services, not seen before in the region.

At Riverside, physical therapy and sports medicine continue to grow to meet the demand for personalized care. The sports physical therapy clinics are a part of a solution to help active residents in the region seeking this level of care. To meet that demand, each clinic is equipped with specialized care teams ready to help patients get back to the activities that they love.

“We are proud to bring this unique physical therapy option to Hampton, Williamsburg, and Newport News residents. As a former Division I athlete, I personally know the benefits that the tools and specialty care will provide the community in their health journey,” says Will Parker, PT, DPT, director of physical therapy. “It’s not common for health systems to have programs that focus on healing and optimize their abilities. We’re excited to be one of the first to make it accessible to the community and meet their ever-changing health needs.”

Patients now have access to equipment not typically available at a standard physical therapy office to support a holistic approach to healing that focuses on strength, mobility and performance. Recently, the Newport News location underwent a revitalization, housing technology that would be seen at a collegiate-level gym including squat racks, turf, and more. This allows for a comprehensive insight into the functioning of athletes at not just at the physical level, but mentally as well.

“Riverside Sports Physical Therapy encompasses a holistic approach of care that includes not only the treatment of the active individual after injury but focuses on functional testing and performance-based measures to determine an individual’s readiness for sport,” said, John LaRue, PT, DPT, SCS, CSCS, director of sports physical therapy and performance. “Riverside is the premier location to get you back to play not only quickly but safely.”

With a team of board-certified sports physical therapy clinicians, patients can seek diagnosis and treatment of many orthopedic and sports-related conditions including:

Back pain

Concussions

Joint injuries

Hip and shoulder labrum tears

Ligament injuries

Ankle sprains

ACL injuries

Elbow UCL injuries

Overuse injuries

Rotator cuff tendonitis

Shin splints

The sports physical therapy clinics also offer a unique offering to patients outside of rehabilitation services with performance training. Patients wanting to perform at their highest level can work with Riverside’s certified performance trainers who help athletes optimize their abilities through a unique approach to training. They combine psychological, mental and physical elements that allow them to review and develop athletes’ mobility, coordination and more.

The sports physical therapy clinics are open and accepting new patients.
