Williamsburg, Va. — Riverside Health System is pleased to announce Kim Kutner has been appointed as a member of the Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Commission for Virginia.

Kutner was appointed by the Virginia Senate Committee on Rules and selected in part given her experience as a Riverside Nursing Home Administrator, dementia educator and current position as Director of Community Ventures for the Riverside Center for Excellence in Aging and Lifelong Health (CEALH), located in Williamsburg. She will serve a four-year term.

Riverside CEALH works to improve the quality of life for older adults by integrating academic, clinical and health services research with the capabilities of local service providers. The goal is to develop and implement innovative community-based and health care initiatives that can be replicated and sustained throughout the Riverside Health System.

The Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Commission, established as an advisory commission in the executive branch of state government, assists people with Alzheimer's disease and related disorders and their caregivers.

An estimated 150,000 Virginians live with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia, according to the commission’s Dementia State Plan 2020-2024. The plan forecasts that number to rise to 190,000 by 2025.

The commission consists of 15 non-legislative citizen members. Members are appointed as follows: three members by the Speaker of the House of Delegates; two members by the Senate Committee on Rules; and 10 members by the Governor, of whom seven shall be from among the boards, staffs, and volunteers of the Virginia chapters of the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association. Three come from the public at large.
