Riverside Regional Medical Center (RRMC) has opened its newly expanded Medical-Surgical (MedSurg) inpatient unit, delivering on a significant $8 million investment in personalized, high-quality care for patients. This relocation and expansion increases inpatient capacity and enhances the care experience through thoughtful design and improved workflow.
“This expansion reflects Riverside’s promise to invest in our community’s health—not just for today, but for the future,” said Mike Oshiki, M.D., President of RRMC. “We’re committed to delivering personalized care in the right setting, and this new space is designed to do just that—supporting healing, comfort, and efficiency.”
The new unit, located on 3West in the Main Tower of RRMC, will serve as a 22-bed MedSurg inpatient unit – relocating and expanding the previous 18-bed unit formerly located in the Pavilion. This strategic move adds 4 additional inpatient beds and is designed to support patients with complex medical conditions, chronic illnesses and post-operative recovery needs.
“The expansion is a critical step in meeting the growing needs of our patients,” said Sadie Thurman, Chief Nursing Officer at RRMC. “This expansion strengthens our ability to move patients efficiently into inpatient care—supporting better patient flow and reinforcing our commitment to high-quality care for everyone who walks through our doors.”
In addition to the expanded 3West unit, the former Pavilion space has been redesignated as an 18-bed short stay observation unit. This unit is for patients that need brief hospitalization and these beds will help RRMC streamline patient care, reduce hospital length of stay, and improve efficiency.
