Premier Inc. Recognizes Riverside Tappahannock Hospital for High-Value Health Care

2020 finalist for high value healthcare awardTappahannock, Va. — Riverside Tappahannock Hospital has been named a finalist for the 2020 QUEST® Award for High-ValueHealthcare from Premier Inc., a leading health care improvement company, for providing outstanding patient care.

Riverside Tappahannock Hospital (RTH) received finalist recognition for achieving top overall performance in four of the five areas measured in Premier’s QUEST 2020 collaborative. Those areas are affordability, effective care and coordination, prevention and treatment for leading causes of mortality, person and family experience, and patient safety.

Premier has recognized RTH multiple times over the years for offering safe, reliable and efficient care.

This is the second honor for a Riverside Health System facility by Premier this fall. Riverside Health System also earned the Supply Chain Excellence Award for its advanced purchasing abilities and commitment to share best practices across the Premier alliance. Riverside is one of only 14 hospitals and health systems across the U.S. to receive a Supply Chain Excellence Award this year.

“It’s an honor to be named a finalist for the QUEST Award, which reinforces our commitment to improved patient outcomes and community health,” said Kate Lim Bradshaw, Ph.D., FACHE, CPHQ, Director of Quality, Riverside Tappahannock Hospital. “We will continue to work to provide the best possible care to our patients and our families. We are grateful that they trust us to take care of all of their health care needs.”

A new partnership announced earlier this fall will extend services from VCU Health System’s acclaimed medical center to residents of the Northern Neck. RTH will officially become part of the VCU Health System on Jan. 1, 2021, which will allow patients even greater access to specialized care.

“QUEST facilities are setting new standards of clinical excellence nationwide,” said Seth Edwards, Vice President of Engagement and Delivery for Premier. “Together, they have worked to outperform in health care. Premier congratulates Riverside Tappahannock Hospital for their fantastic achievements.”

Premier brings together 1,500 hospitals and health systems in multiple collaboratives, including QUEST, to leverage the power of collaboration on a national scale. Within these collaboratives, health care providers work with each other to develop, share and scale best practices that improve quality and safety, reduce costs and share risk. A recipient of The Joint Commission and National Quality Forum’s 2015 John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Award, QUEST was launched in 2008 to help health systems reliably deliver the most efficient, effective and caring experience for every patient, every time. Hospitals in Premier’s QUEST collaborative perform 29% better than non-Premier hospitals in achieving value-based purchasing payments.

All 197 QUEST 2020 hospitals submitting data for 4Q2018 through 3Q2019 were eligible for the QUEST Award. Performance thresholds were established at the top quartile of performance in all measures except affordability, which was based on top tercile of performance, from the baseline period. Top performance methodology for each dimension varied depending on the measure calculation and methodology.
