Onancock, Va.– Chronic pain can be debilitating, keeping sufferers from enjoying their family time and social events and sometimes even making it difficult to hold a job.
Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital has added a new therapy for chronic spine and joint pain to its array of services.
Pain Management specialist Dr. Amr Elsaadat offers neurostimulation therapy to treat patients who have suffered from chronic pain due to past trauma, disc degeneration, amputation, sciatica, regional pain syndrome and other causes. Neurostimulation by the Abbott Proclaim™ DRG Neurostimulation System relieves the sensation of pain by targeting the dorsal root ganglion, a spinal structure densely populated with sensory nerves that transmit information to the brain via the spinal cord. The Proclaim implantable device can target specific areas of the body and gives physicians the ability to effectively provide pain relief.
Long term data from the ACCURATE clinical trial have shown significantly more patients receiving dorsal root ganglion stimulation achieved meaningful pain relief and greater treatment success when compared to patients receiving traditional spinal cord stimulation (74.2 percent versus 53 percent).
“Riverside Shore Memorial is pleased to offer this new technology to enhance care for our Shore neighbors who are living every day in pain that keeps them from living their best life,” said John Peterman, President of Riverside Shore Health Services.
Elsaadat and neurologist Dr. Robert Paschall will host an informational session on these new treatments on December 5 at 5:00 pm at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital. Interested persons should RSVP at 757-302-2140.
