Riverside Mental Health and Recovery Center Approaches Opening Day for New Emergency Department

September 28, 2023
RMHRC Draft

With all major construction and electrical work complete on its new freestanding Psychiatric Emergency Department, Riverside Mental Health & Recovery Center (RMHRC) is now in the process of moving in furniture, computers, supplies and patient care items.

In addition, RMHRC has brought on enough team members to open the ED later this fall. The hospital will hold training sessions for new hires during the move-in process as well as run tests on phone systems and security equipment.

“We’re so excited to have reached this point,” says Stacey Johnson, President of RMHRC. “This facility will be a very important resource for our community, and we can’t wait to get to work helping patients in need.”

The next few weeks will also involve correcting small issues such as scratches on the floor, missing light bulbs or improperly installed doorknobs.” Johnson adds, “It’s a type of extended walk-through to put the bow on top of a great package.”

The ED will triage patients of all ages who present with psychiatric illnesses, behavioral health concerns and substance abuse disorders. Many of those patients would otherwise land in a medical ER, leading to delayed treatment and often significant distress.

Instead, RMHRC providers will be on hand 24/7 in the ED to promptly direct each patient to needed inpatient or outpatient care. The space includes separate treatment areas for adults and children, a mix of private and community treatment rooms and a calming environment with soft colors, serene artwork, quiet sensory rooms and immovable furniture.

If you or your loved ones need help, Riverside’s team of professionals has the experience and expertise to assist you on your path to wellness. To learn more about Riverside Mental Health and Recovery Center and its community services, please call 757-827-3119 or visit riversideonline.com/rmhrc.
