Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital Again Earns Four Stars from Medicare

April 10, 2019

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently announced that Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital (RSMH) has once again earned a four-star rating, on a scale of five stars.  A four-star rating puts RSMH among the best-performing hospitals nationwide.

CMS created the star ratings to help patients, family members and caregivers compare hospitals on different measurements of quality, safety and service.  The most recent ratings were based on 57 publicly reported measures over a period spanning 2014 through the beginning of 2018.

“We are proud that CMS has recognized the quality care delivered by our team at RSMH.  As impressive as four stars is, we have set our sights on becoming a five-star hospital and are working hard toward that goal.  This means that our patients will continue to see a laser-like focus on safety and comfort,” said John Peterman, Vice President and Administrator at RSMH.  “When it comes to quality, there is no end point.  Our team members will always be searching for ways to improve, because that is the foundation of our mission to care for our community as we would care for our own loved ones,” he added.

In addition to this vote of confidence by CMS, RSMH has earned accreditation and primary stroke center certification by DNV-GL, a health care accrediting body;  the Riverside Shore Cancer Center has earned Gold Standard Commendation plus the Outstanding Achievement Award from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer;  and the hospital’s nursing team has earned Pathway to Excellence designation for nursing’s leadership within RSMH.

Eastern Shore patients have also given their vote of approval. 85% of RSMH patients surveyed gave the highest possible approval rating when asked if they would recommend the hospital to their family and friends (data as of 3/31/19).
