Riverside Health System named Most Wired for Eleventh Consecutive Year

August 07, 2015

Riverside Health System has been recognized, for the eleventh consecutive year, as one of America's "Most Wired" health care systems. This accomplishment is the result of many years of investment, hard work, and a commitment to improving the health and wellness of the communities Riverside serves through the use of information technology.

"Riverside invested early on in promising, worthwhile technologies and continues to do so," said Bill Downey, President & CEO for Riverside Health System. "This recognition of information technology innovation aligns with Riverside's mission and the Riverside Care Difference – to keep our patients safe, to help heal them, to be kind to them and to respect their wishes" Downey, continued.

To receive this award, a health care system must achieve high levels of success in the following four focus areas:

  • Clinical Quality and Safety, i.e. "computerized physician order entry" (CPOE) for medications, laboratory and radiology orders, clinical pathways, diagnostic imaging, etc.
  • Clinical Integration, i.e. Patient Portal, e-Prescribing, Physician Office Electronic Medical Record (EMR) connectivity, Interoperability, etc.
  • Infrastructure - i.e. Security, Wireless Networks, Encryption, Data Recovery, etc.
  • Business and Administrative Management - (e.g. Patient Flow Automation, Bar Code Technology, Automated Supply Chain processes, etc.)

Over 2,000 hospitals are represented in this year's survey and Riverside stands out as one of the industry's leaders. Riverside Health System is the only health system in Virginia to have achieved this recognition for each of the last eleven years. It is a tribute to the hard work and dedication by all of the departments and team members of Riverside

"Riverside is truly a 'great place to work' and these are exciting times in health care. It is an honor to be recognized in 2015 by Hospitals & Health Networks organization and is something for which all of Riverside's team members and the community can be proud", said Dennis Loftus, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Riverside Health System.
