Black Health and Wellness
Tiles of African Americans

To celebrate Black History Month, each week in February we will spotlight the contributions and accomplishments of Black health care heroes within Riverside and our community. We will also share facts about Black health disparities and how Riverside and our partners are making a difference through education, programs, and services.

Did you know?

  • 22 percent of African Americans avoid medical care due to a concern of racial discrimination?
  • The life expectancy of people of color is often a decade or more-shorter than their White neighbors just a few blocks away.
  • According to Harvard School of Public Health, blacks have higher rates of diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease than other groups, and black children have a 500% higher death rate from asthma compared with white children.
