Adolescent Admissions
The following criteria is used in determining appropriateness for adult inpatient admission at Riverside Behavioral Health Center.
Admission to the Intensive Treatment Program
Common reasons for an adult to be admitted to our adult Intensive Treatment Program include:- Suicidal thoughts or a suicide attempt
- Threatened, attempted or engaged in physical violence to others
- Unable to care for self
- Failed to improve with outpatient treatment
- Need for psychiatric care and medication stabilization
- Need for legally mandated admission for evaluation
Admission to Adult Psychiatric Services
The following criteria are considered for individuals to enter our Adult Psychiatric Services, or APSY, program.
- Have a recent history of suicidal behavior, are a threat to self or others
- Have experienced a recent failure in outpatient treatment
- Are unable to function on the job, at school, in the family, and/or in a relationship
- Have experienced a change in mood that interferes significantly with their capacity to meet ordinary demands of daily living
- Need legally mandated admission for evaluation
Specific criteria for admission for substance abuse treatment
Clearly documented history of alcohol or drug intake sufficient to produce withdrawal manifestations when discontinued or there is a history of withdrawal symptoms as evidenced by one or more of the following:- Pattern of use: A pattern of use (frequency and duration) predicts the potential for clinically significant withdrawal necessitating medical/nursing intervention.
- Immediacy of use: As the critical period for risk of medically significant withdrawal is the day(s) immediately following cessation or reduction of use, the last use of substance must be within 72 hours of the proposed detoxification.
- Recent excessive use with changes in mental status, difficulty or severe tremulousness, increases in pulse and blood pressure.
