Plastic Surgery

Breast reconstruction is a type of surgery for women who have had all or part of a breast removed. The surgery rebuilds the breast mound to match the size and shape of the other breast. Breast reconstruction surgery can make a big difference to help you feel like yourself again.

When a mastectomy is required for your continued health, our highly specialized breast reconstruction team will meet with you well before your surgery to discuss your options. The goal of breast reconstruction is to restore a natural, breast with adequate volume and shape and an aesthetically pleasing contour.

What can a breast reconstruction do for me?

Breast reconstruction surgery following mastectomy or lumpectomy is a personal decision. Recent improvements in breast reconstruction techniques give women more options for natural-looking breasts following a cancer diagnosis. Our plastic surgeon works closely with your breast cancer team as soon as you are diagnosed. We explain your options, recommend the best approach based on your situation, and create a tailored treatment plan that is designed to provide the best cosmetic and health-related result. Much of the cost of breast reconstruction is covered by health insurance plans, as mandated by law.

What to expect during breast reconstruction?

After reviewing your medical history and overall health, our surgeon will explain which reconstructive options are best for you based on your age, health, body type, lifestyle, and goals. We encourage you to talk with your surgeon openly about what you expect, and voice any concerns and priorities you have for the reconstruction.

Will insurance cover the procedure?

Insurance providers are required by law to cover breast reconstruction surgery and any cosmetic operations necessary to create symmetry in either breast. If your surgery is covered by insurance, precertification is required. We will be happy to assist you with the process.
