Focused Ultrasound Treatment for Parkinson’s Disease, Brian’s Story

Riverside’s Movement Disorders Program now offers MRI focused Ultrasound in addition to Deep Brain Stimulation and therapy services. MRI focused US is an exciting new procedure for the treatment of medication-refractory essential tremors and tremor-dominant Parkinson’s Disease that targets the pathways deep in the brain where the tremors occur, allowing patients to see a vast improvement in their tremor in only a few hours with minimal side effects or recovery time. The procedure is done in a single session with no incisions, with patients able to go home shortly after it is finished. Brian Osborne, who has been living with Parkinson’s Disease, shared his experience of having the procedure done on the left side of his brain in order to improve the tremors in his right (dominant) side.
