Creating Moments of Joy | (2017, J. Brackey)

This book serves as a journal for caregivers that can be used daily. It includes 5 distinct sections, with step-by-step approaches for creating moments of joy. 

Helping Yourself Help Others | (2013, R. Carter)

This encouraging and empowering book, written by former first lady Rosalynn Carter, combines stories of her personal caregiving experience with guidance and advice for common problems and challenges faced by caregivers.

The Emotional Survival Guide for Caregivers: Looking After Yourself and Your Family While Helping an Aging Parent | (2006, B. Jacobs)

Family Caregiver Alliance: The Family Caregiver Alliance site is designed to support caregivers and help them improve quality of life and enhance the care they provide. This site includes a variety of content in the form of videos, classes, and readings to educate and support caregivers.

National Alliance for Caregiving: The National Alliance for Caregiving focuses on advocacy and research for family caregivers. This site offers numerous resources for family caregivers including reports, linking to national and local resources and educational programs.

Caring.Com: This site has a caregiver wellness section and provides information on different types of living/housing options, support groups, and health conditions that impact caregivers and those they care for.

Support Programs

Caregiver Tech Tool Finder: This tool was designed by VirginiaNavigator with input from Riverside CEALH. The tool helps caregivers identify various apps that may support their caregiving role. The apps are organized into categories including coordinating care, medication management, safety, and self-care.

Caring For You, Caring For Me: This award-winning program, and the signature program of the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers, consists of 5 weekly seminars designed to address the needs of those engaged in elder care, including family members, professional staff, and volunteers. TSA Cares: TSA Cares is a phone service that helps older passengers or those with disabilities or medical needs receive personal help prior to being screened at the airport. When requesting assistance through TSA Cares, it is recommended that arrangements are made at least 72 hours prior to travel. Representatives are available at 1-855-787-2227 Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., and weekends and holidays 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time.

Area Support Groups: CEALH partners with the Peninsula Agency on Aging to provide a consolidated list of active caregiver support groups encompassing both the Williamsburg area and the Peninsula. This listing includes a variety of caregiver support groups including for those caring for individuals with Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, stroke, and brain injury that generally meet monthly.
