What happens at your first visit?

Your first visit is a virtual appointment with one of our experienced obstetric nurses, typically around 6 to 8 weeks of pregnancy.

We'll answer your questions, get to know you and gather the information that helps personalize your care from the very beginning.

Before your visit ends, you’ll already have your next two appointments:

  • A dating ultrasound with our dedicated OB/GYN Imaging team
  • Your first prenatal visit with your obstetric provider

These appointments are typically scheduled between 10 to 13 weeks of pregnancy.

Choose pregnancy care that’s right for you.

At your first prenatal visit with your obstetric provider, you'll have time to ask questions, learn more about your pregnancy and talk about what matters most to you.

We'll talk through your options, recommend the care and support that's best for you and your baby, and choose the approach that best fits your health, your preferences and your pregnancy.

Your personalized pregnancy care may include one or a combination of care options.

Spend dedicated one-on-one time with your obstetric provider throughout pregnancy with traditional prenatal care. Your visit schedule is personalized based on what's best for you and your baby, not a one-size-fits-all calendar.
Enjoy the best of both worlds with group prenatal care. Each visit includes one-on-one time with your certified nurse midwife, followed by a longer group session with other moms due around the same time. This care model provides the benefit of time to ask additional questions, learn from experts, share experiences and build a supportive community throughout pregnancy.
When appropriate, virtual visits make it easier to fit prenatal care into your schedule while staying connected with your care team.
Our certified nurse midwives partner with you throughout pregnancy, labor and birth, providing personalized, relationship-centered care every step of the way.
If you choose a doula to support your pregnancy, they become a valued part of your care team. From the beginning we will work together so everyone understands your birth preferences and supports the experience that is important to you.
If your pregnancy begins with conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, twins or higher-order multiples, advanced maternal age or other medical concerns, Riverside Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialists may become part of your care team from the beginning. Working alongside your obstetric provider, they help create a personalized plan for you and your baby.

Care that grows with you

One of the biggest advantages of personalized pregnancy care is that it adapts as your needs change.

If your pregnancy becomes more complex, your care doesn't start over. Your team simply grows. Riverside Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialists and other experts may join your care team while your history, your birth preferences and your care plan stay connected.

One team, one plan, where every decision is guided by what's best for you and your baby.

Your birth experience begins long before labor.

Throughout your pregnancy, we'll talk about your birth preferences, what's important to you and how you'd like to welcome your baby into the world.

When it's time to deliver, your labor and delivery team already knows your pregnancy, your health history and the care you've received along the way. Your obstetric provider, nurses and support team work together from the same shared understanding, helping you feel respected, supported and cared for throughout labor, birth and recovery.

If you've chosen a doula, they're welcomed as a valued part of your birth team because we believe the people who support you matter.
