Emergency Medicine Residency Program

Riverside Health is currently accepting applications from 3rd and 4th year Medical Students for Elective and Sub-I Rotations in Emergency Medicine at Riverside Regional Medical Center, in Newport News, Virginia. As of 2/1/2025 we are now using VSLO for all rotation applications. AI rotation acceptance letters will be sent by April 11, 2025

Rotation spots for summer and fall are currently full. Those on the waitlist will be contacted for winter spots as they become available.

  • Sub-I Rotation Requests are available for dates between July 2025- February 2026.
  • Applications for Electives will be accepted for rotation dates between January 2026 - April 2026.

Sub-I Rotations consist of 15 shifts in our Level 2 Emergency Department. Sub-I rotations will also include a 15 minute case study presentation and require a passing grade on the SAEM EM exam given during your time at Riverside. Elective rotations will have 14-15 shifts along with a SIM and Conference day.

Housing Provided: Our EM program provides housing for students that would like to utilize this resource. Our apartment is a 3 bedroom condo about 5 miles from the hospital, located in City Center, Newport News. Apartments are coed, but bedrooms and potential roommates are separated by gender.

Food Provided: Students also get a food stipend for meals when they are on shift
Travel Scholarship: This year we are offering a $750 supplemental travel scholarship based on student need to encourage more diversity from students outside of the Virginia area to be able to come to Riverside. (email [email protected] for additional details)
