Jenny and Matt first met in Pennsylvania and built a life together in Williamsburg, VA after Matt attended William & Mary. After 13 years, the couple was ready to tie the knot.
When Jenny received a terminal diagnosis and having a wedding started to seem out of reach, she shared her wish to marry Matt with her Riverside team. What happened next is a true testament to the power of love- and the Riverside care difference.

Planning a traditional wedding wasn’t in the cards and prioritizing a trip to the courthouse seemed unlikely. In the face of that reality, Jenny’s care team was determined to bring the celebration to them. With flowers and a wedding cake provided by the Riverside Foundation—made possible through the generosity of donors like you—Jenny and Matt were able to have a small wedding attended by their two beloved dogs! The ceremony was a celebration of their thirteen-year love story and a piece of happiness when they needed it most.
“Her sickness has robbed her of so much, but to see all of you throw your arms around her and shower her with compliments and excitement over her appearance and presence is something I will truly never forget” Matt wrote in a note to the team that made it possible.
Even amid uncertainty, moments of profound love and joy are possible for those facing a cancer diagnosis.
Jenny and Matt’s story is a reminder that even when so much feels out of reach, community can still step in with love. The Tree of Life Cancer Fund helps to fill the critical gaps created by a cancer diagnosis—transportation to an appointment, help with medication costs and the ability to say “yes” to moments that matter when time is limited. Your gift allows Riverside to meet patients not just with care, but with compassion that responds to what each moment calls for.
Congratulations to Jenny and Matt!
