About Sashank Pokhrel, MD

Sashank Pokhrel, M.D., is a board-certified family medicine physician with a deep commitment to disease prevention. He studied medicine at B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan, Nepal. Then, he completed his family medicine residency at the Grand Rapids Family Medicine Residency Program in Michigan. Before joining Riverside, he practiced in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, for more than a decade.

Dr. Pokhrel chose to specialize in family medicine because he loves caring for patients of various ages and genders. He believes that, while he travels with each of his patients along their health journeys, the patient is always the driver — he is the advisor. Carefully weighing patient health benefits and risks before any recommendation, he strongly feels that prevention is always better than the cure.

Welcoming children, adolescents and adult patients, Dr. Pokhrel offers a full spectrum of primary care services. Besides preventive medicine, Dr. Pokhrel also has a particular interest in helping patients manage chronic diseases.

Dr. Pokhrel is originally from Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. After spending nearly 14 years in Michigan and Minnesota, he appreciates the milder climate of Yorktown as well as the many things to do and proximity to big cities (without the “big city hassles”). He is married and enjoys soccer, hiking, cycling, tennis and traveling in his leisure.
