About Patrick Stephen Burke, MD

Patrick Burke, M.D., is a fellowship-trained eye doctor specializing in pediatric ophthalmology, strabismus, adult cataracts, eye surgery, diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma. Dr. Burke has extensive experience performing tear duct and strabismus surgery. He believes in patient-centered care, taking the time to listen and educate patients so they can make informed decisions.  

Dr. Burke earned his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. He finished a residency in ophthalmology at Georgetown University Hospital, MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., where he served as chief resident. He completed a pediatric ophthalmology fellowship with Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Dr. Burke is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Burke’s ophthalmology research interests include predictors of success in optic nerve sheath fenestration, a topic he presented at the Academic Day Symposium of the Children’s National Hospital. In 2019 he earned the Ocular Innovation Award for his work on nonsurgical closure of macular holes with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drops.

An outdoor enthusiast, Dr. Burke enjoys hiking, swimming and skiing. Community service, at home and abroad, is important to Dr. Burke. He volunteered as a tutor and at a local shelter throughout his medical school career. As a physician, he travels on mission trips with Little Eyes International, a non-profit that provides free pediatric care in underserved areas.
