About Michelle Reid Frickanisce, FNP
After serving as an emergency room nurse for close to twenty years, Michelle or "Shelly" is accustomed to caring for patients in all age groups for a variety of reasons in a wide range of situations. But as she assisted patients with chronic and acute issues in that role, she found that the nature of the provider-patient relationship was always brief.
In contrast, as a nurse practitioner, Shelly strives to have a more personal relationship with her patients in regards to their health care needs. Believing a team approach is key, she works together with each patient to formulate a plan that meets his or her needs and lifestyle. She is a prevention advocate, from supporting weight loss or maintenance to encouraging an active lifestyle. This ability to promote health in combination with caring for sick patients is Shelly's favorite aspect of family medicine, considering it the best of both worlds.
Originally from the beautiful mountains of the Shenandoah Valley, Shelly now lives in Suffolk with her husband, who is the city's recreation department manager. They have six children - only one left at home - and two granddaughters who fill up their spare time. Shelly's hobbies include traveling, reading and shopping. She and her entire family root for the New York Giants, as evidenced by Shelly's sidekick, a toy poodle named Tiki Barber.
