About Jose Luis Perez Lara, MD

Dr. Pérez Lara is a board-certified, fellowship-trained pulmonary and critical care physician with special interest in asthma and interstitial lung disease (a group of disorders that cause progressive scarring of lung tissue). He also performs some minimally invasive procedures including conscious sedation fiberoptic bronchoscopy, transbronchial biopsies, endobronchial biopsies and bronchoalveolar lavages. 

After completing medical school in Venezuela and working as a physician in Caracas Dr. Pérez Lara moved to New York where he completed an internal medicine residency at Bronx Care Health System and then pursued a pulmonary disease fellowship at the same facility. He then completed an additional fellowship in critical care medicine at Montefiore Medical Center Einstein University, also located in the Bronx.  He is certified in internal and pulmonary medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Pérez Lara chose pulmonary care because the specialty allows him to provide tangible, meaningful help and relief to his patient’s respiratory problems. He places a high value on being approachable, non-judgmental and open. Dr. Pérez Lara treats each patient as if they were a family member and believes in each patient’s importance and value in their families and in the community.

Married with one son, Dr. Pérez Lara enjoys running, trekking and exploring the outdoors with his family. Originally from Venezuela, he is fluent in English and Spanish.
