About Jim Wong, MD
Dr. Wong is a board-certified, fellowship-trained infectious disease physician with interests in HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, endocarditis, osteomyelitis and bacteremia.
After earning a Bachelor of Science in medical technology from the University at Buffalo and a Doctor of Medicine from the Medical University of the Americas, Dr. Wong completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in infectious disease, both at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine and infectious disease.
For an unknown condition, Dr. Wong believes that most of the time the answer can be found with the patient; the doctor must find the right questions to ask and help the patient realize what they may have forgotten. Dr. Wong seeks to teach his patients about their disease process and get them actively involved in the decisions relating to their care. He appreciates that many infectious diseases can be cured instead of just being managed.
Originally from New York City, Dr. Wong is married with one daughter. He likes living in Hampton Roads because of the many beaches and opportunities for water-related recreational activities. He also enjoys traveling, experiencing new cultures, trying new foods and restaurants and experimenting with recipes that help with weight loss.
