About Jamie Leigh King, MD

Dr. King, a board-certified family medicine physician, specializes in obesity management and treatment, preventive care, women’s health, insertion and removal of IUD and Nexplanon birth control implants and minor skin procedures. She believes that family medicine encompasses the best skillset to serve rural and underserved communities. Her commitment to treat obesity is a natural complement because the obesity epidemic has shown to disproportionately impact lower income and underserved populations.

After earning a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from William & Mary and a Doctor of Medicine from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, Dr. King completed a residency in family medicine at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. She is certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine and by the American Board of Obesity Medicine in obesity medicine.

Since there are usually numerous ways to achieve a health goal, Dr. King believes the best approach is collaborative between the patient and physician to make sure the patient understands all the available options and then can decide what they prefer as part of their treatment plan. Prevention is another key pillar of Dr. King’s approach to health care. Preventing diabetes and heart disease will, she believes, give valuable time back to individual patients that could have been lost to suffering and improve the overall health of local communities. Dr. King is committed to making sure patients can access the right care.

Dr. King grew up in Pulaski County, Virginia, and lived most recently in Great Falls, Montana. After spending three years at William & Mary and a summer working in a research lab at NASA Langley, she is happy to return to Hampton Roads. Dr. King is married and enjoys the local history, the many waterways and proximity to the beach and the opportunities for outdoor activities.
