About Dawn Marie Brown, DO

Dr. Brown earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Touro University Medical College in California. She completed a general surgery residency with Inspira Health Network in New Jersey, followed by fellowship training in trauma and surgical critical care at St. Luke’s University Health Network in Pennsylvania. Dr. Brown is dually board-certified in general surgery and surgical critical care medicine by the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery.

Witnessing a severe car accident inspired a young Dr. Brown’s interest in medicine. She worked as a paramedic for 12 years before medical school, where she discovered that the trauma and critical care specialty perfectly combined her passion for emergency diagnostics and treatment with traditional medical/surgical care.

Dr. Brown’s diverse surgical expertise makes her highly trained to treat patients with a wide array of emergent surgical and medical problems from hernias and inflamed gallbladders to extensive traumatic injuries. Her interests include pre-hospital care, disaster response, multi-organ dysfunction, advanced ventilator techniques, laparoscopic surgery, wound care, ultrasound diagnosis, rib plating, robotic surgery and osteopathic manipulation treatment (OMT).

Determined to never lose sight of medicine’s human element, Dr. Brown’s philosophy is to see her patients as family and treat the whole patient. She is committed to being her patients’ best advocate while maintaining empathy and transparency.

Born to a largely military family, Dr. Brown briefly lived in Norfolk as a child before spending the rest of her early life in Las Vegas. Today she loves living close to the ocean and rivers of Hampton Roads. Dr. Brown’s favorite hobbies include camping, hiking, yoga, ceramics, painting and traveling.
