About Ameet Kumar, MD

Dr. Kumar is a board-certified, fellowship-trained nephrology physician with expertise in chronic kidney disease, renal stones and hyponatremia. Board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Kumar cares for patients with a wide variety of chronic and acute conditions including blood pressure management, preventing progression of chronic kidney disease, prevention of recurrent renal stones (calculi), hyponatremia and glomerulonephritis. 

Originally from Pakistan, Dr. Kumar completed his undergraduate and medical school degrees there before completing his internship and residency in internal medicine at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. He completed his fellowship training in nephrology at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Initially drawn by the intellectual challenge of nephrology, Dr. Kumar is passionate about the important role of patients in their own care.  Patient education is important to practice, as he believes taking time to educate patients on their conditions builds relationships and leads to better results.  He appreciates working in a specialty where medication and lifestyle habits can often make a huge difference, but that there are life-saving interventions such as dialysis and kidney transplants, available to many patients.    

Married with two boys, Dr. Kumar and his family enjoy traveling and the outdoors, especially exploring local beaches. Dr. Kumar is fluent English, Urdu, Sindhi and Hindi as well as speaking some Punjabi.
