About Ali Hussain, MD
Ali Hussain, M.D., is a fellowship-trained hematologist and medical oncologist specializing in thoracic oncology, genitourinary oncology and malignant hematology. His approach to care is rooted in partnership, compassion and evidence-based medicine. Dr. Hussain believes every patient's story is unique, and he works closely with each patient to develop a treatment plan that reflects their goals, values and quality of life. He is committed to helping patients feel heard, supported and informed throughout every stage of their cancer journey.
Dr. Hussain earned a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Allama Iqbal Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan. He then completed his internal medicine residency at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, followed by a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. Dr. Hussain is double board-certified internal medicine and hematology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Inspired by the opportunity to combine rapidly advancing science with meaningful relationships, Dr. Hussain chose oncology and hematology because they allow him to support patients and their families through some of life's most challenging moments. He wants every patient to know they will never face cancer alone. By taking the time to listen, answer questions honestly and explain treatment options in a clear, manageable way, he helps patients make informed decisions that align with what matters most to them.
Originally from Pakistan, Dr. Hussain now calls Newport News home. He appreciates the city's welcoming community, where people genuinely look out for one another, as well as its balance of natural beauty, rich history and continued growth. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, whether running, playing soccer or discovering new places to travel together.
