In addition to receiving the highest standards of quality cancer care, when you choose Riverside, you choose local care from a care team that you know as neighbors and community members. We are here because of you. We care for you and your family like we would care for our own loved ones and we are passionate about delivering your care with a personalized approach.
Our providers trained at top academic cancer centers and chose to practice here, bringing advanced expertise directly to the communities we serve. We offer advanced treatments, leading-edge therapies, and expansive services right here in our region, so patients do not have to travel far to receive expert cancer care.
Riverside’s Cancer Care Network is part of an integrated system that includes more than 800 Riverside providers across a wide range of specialties.
We also work closely with referring physicians outside of Riverside to ensure patients receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time. Whether your provider is part of our network or not, we coordinate every step of your care from diagnosis through survivorship to make the process as seamless and supportive as possible.
Cancer is a complex disease. It takes the experience and expertise of the entire team to provide each patient with the best care throughout their cancer journey.
Multidisciplinary tumor boards bring the collective expertise of many cancer specialists
We hold regular disease-specific multidisciplinary tumor boards that bring together experts from across disciplines and locations to review patient cases. These weekly meetings include medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgical oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, genetic counselors, nurse navigators, oncology rehabilitation therapists and others. During the tumor board experts may discuss your imaging, pathology and clinical details along with your health history and logistical needs. Patients benefit from the collective experience and guidance of cancer specialists from across our network with the singular goal to create the most effective, individualized treatment plan for you.
Your oncologist and cancer care team will present the recommendations and answer any questions you may have as you choose what treatment is best for you.
Support services integrated into your care
Beyond medical treatment Riverside Cancer Care Network offers supportive services, such as cancer care nurse navigators, social work, oncology rehabilitation services, palliative care, dietitian nutritionists and more.
In addition to a multidisciplinary team of cancer experts taking care of our patients, Riverside Cancer Care Network works across the regions we serve with outreach and education to improve the health of our communities. Our primary goals are to improve access to screenings and prevention and reduce barriers to care. One person at a time, we want to reduce the burden of cancer and help detect cancer as early as possible.
Offering additional community support, our Cancer Registry team collects, manages and reports community-specific oncology data to the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons. This data is analyzed and used to inform and manage trends and outcomes of cancers so our communities benefit from a national perspective.
We also work closely with partners such as the American Cancer Society, Here For The Girls (H4TG), and the Hampton Roads Prostate Health Forum to expand our reach and reduce the burden of cancer in our communities. These partnerships support transportation grants, screening events, and education efforts across the region.
Here’s how we’re making a difference:
- Offering free and low-cost screening clinics in neighborhoods across our region
- Providing education on prevention and the importance of early detection through events, and printed materials
- Educating the community about the value of primary care as a key part of staying healthy and keeping up with recommended screenings
- Partnering with religious institutions and community groups to share educational materials on the importance of screening. We also provide calendars of upcoming events led by Riverside and in collaboration with organizations like 100 Black Men and the Hampton Roads Prostate Forum
- Partnering with the Lackey Care Clinic in York County, Old Town Medical Center in Williamsburg and Gloucester Matthews Care Clinic on the Middle Peninsula to provide cancer screenings and education for patients who qualify due to financial and insurance barriers.
Early detection saves lives. We are committed to making it easier for more people to get the information, support, and care they need.
