About Robin Karasek, MD
Dr. Karasek is a board-certified internal medicine physician focusing on preventive medicine, managing complex medical conditions, follow-up after hospital discharge and advanced care planning. She is certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
After completing a Doctor of Medicine in internal medicine from Saint James School of Medicine, Dr. Karasek served as a resident physician at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago where she trained in internal medicine. She managed patients in the intensive care unit, in the emergency department and on the hospital floor. She also worked in the out-patient clinic where she focused on post-discharge follow-ups, preventive care and managing chronic conditions.
Dr. Karasek chose internal medicine because she enjoys the opportunity to take care of patients over time and to be their central point of contact in managing their health care needs. Her philosophy as a physician is that her patients never should worry alone; if an issue worries a patient, then it’s worth discussion and investigating. She welcomes all questions and discussions and if she does not have the answer, she works to find that answer or directs her patients to the best source.
Her practice is guided by her belief that each person knows their own body the best and the physician is there to provide information and guidance so patients can reach their healthcare goals in a way tailored to their needs and lifestyle.
A native of Montreal, Dr. Karasek relocated to Hampton Roads to establish her medical career in the heart of a warm and welcoming community. She likes the lovely people, parks and milder weather in Hampton Roads. She is married with two sons and a cat. On weekends, she can be found outdoors exploring nearby nature parks, walking trails and visiting historical sites and beaches. She is fluent in English, French and Czech and speaks conversational Spanish and basic Italian.
