About Megan Brooke McGavern, DO

After earning her medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. McGavern completed residency training in internal medicine at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. She also holds a Master of Science in epidemiology and preventive medicine. Dr. McGavern is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

A love for working with adult patients and more complex medical issues make Dr. McGavern’s role as an internist one she thoroughly enjoys. She finds it particularly rewarding to hear patients report that a treatment plan has been effective. With an approach focused on treating others the way she would want to be treated in their shoes, Dr. McGavern’s goal is to support, encourage and guide her patients in the right direction.

In the office, Dr. McGavern’s areas of specialty include joint injections, Pap smears and cryotherapy. Beyond her medical practice, she offers diabetic education classes to the community and remains active in clinical research.

Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Dr. McGavern is married with three sons. Prior to joining Riverside, she served as an active-duty Navy physician.
