About Matthew John Tompkins, MD

Matthew J. Tompkins, M.D., is a board-certified urogynecologist specializing in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery. 

Dr. Tompkins earned his medical degree from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. He completed an obstetrics and gynecology residency at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, where he served as chief resident. Before his medical training, Dr. Tompkins earned a Bachelor of Arts in zoology from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He is board certified in urogynecology and reconstructive pelvic surgery by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.   

Dr. Tompkins is passionate about helping women with pelvic floor disorders. His philosophy is to listen carefully and work with patients toward a personalized plan of care that helps them improve their quality of life.  

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. Tompkins looks forward to exploring our area’s bike trails and beaches. When he’s not at work, he enjoys spending time with his family, cheering on his favorite football teams, swimming, skiing and playing basketball.

Dr. Tompkins was caring, friendly and professional. He discussed three options of care for my problem. I did not want to take any more meds, so we discussed the other two options in greater detail. He did not rush me. I did ask him for advice and I am happy with the option he felt was best for me.

Of all physicians I have visited in my 80-plus years (several U.S. States, military and civilian; Great Britain; and, Canada) Doctor Tompkins stands out as an epitome of excellence. He provides professionalism, knowledge, understanding, kindness, and good humor. Additionally, his staff follows his example. It is a pleasure to visit his office!

Was so impressed with his way of explaining any questions I had. He was courteous, respectful and sensed that I was anxious and had difficulty with walking. I must say that being referred to him was a great medical experience compared to previous experiences I have had with referrals. I would have no reservations with referring him to anyone I knew that needed his specialized medical knowledge.
