About Martha Luz Alejandro-Bird, AGPCNP

Martha earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Fairfield University in 1990. As an experienced registered nurse, she earned a Master of Science in nursing from Duke University in 2019. Martha is board-certified as an adult-gerontology nurse practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

With 30 years of nursing experience under her belt, Martha recognized the myriad of issues related to gut health and pursued the opportunity to help patients achieve optimal quality of life by managing GI conditions. In addition to general gastroenterology care, she has a special interest in gastric motility issues and the influence of lifestyle habits on colon health.

Martha encourages conversations about gut health and aims to provide education that empowers patients to make informed decisions. While doing so, she is intentional about staying abreast of changes in the evolving field of medicine. Martha believes that a positive patient-provider relationship is at the forefront of successfully managing any acute or chronic condition and considers it a privilege to be part of that partnership.

Though she grew up looking forward to Connecticut’s crisp falls and spectacular foliage, Martha now enjoys less snow, more outdoor activities and the rich history in Williamsburg. In addition to spending time with her husband and two children, her favorite activities include swimming, cycling, hiking, running, dancing, stand-up paddle boarding, reading and cooking. Martha is fluent in English and Spanish.
