About James A Scott, MD

James A. Scott, M.D., FACOG is a board-certified obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN) physician specializing in women’s health, including family planning, contraception, infertility, prenatal care, abnormal uterine bleeding, cervical cancer, and noninvasive examination techniques such as laparoscopy and hysteroscopy. Dr. Scott enjoys providing comprehensive care for women throughout their lives.

Dr. Scott earned his medical degree from SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University in Brooklyn, New York. He completed his obstetrics and gynecology residency at North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Hospital in Manhasset, New York. After his formal medical training, Dr. Scott earned a certificate in physician leadership from King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. In 2016, he received the Academy of Clinical Educators Teaching Excellence Award from the Geisinger Commonwealth Medical College.

As a strong patient advocate, Dr. Scott volunteers his expertise to improve health outcomes in the community. Before relocating to Virginia, he served on the American Conference of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) District II Safe Motherhood Initiative Steering Committee in Albany, New York. He was also on the executive committee of the New York State Maternal Mortality Review Board and contributed to the ACOG District II Opiate Use Disorder in Pregnancy Task Force.

When not at work, Dr. Scott enjoys playing golf, cycling and skiing. His active lifestyle includes spending time with family and coaching his son’s little league team.
