About Derek Mark Evans, OD

Dr. Evans is an award-winning optometrist with a background in caring for patients before and after eye operations. After earning a bachelor’s degree in biology from Virginia Tech, he completed his Doctor of Optometry from Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton, California; there, he was awarded the Dr. Joe W. Dobbs Scholarship for Excellence in Low Vision Clinic and Vistakon, Inc.’s Award of Excellence in Contact Lens Patient Care.

He joined Riverside with more than a decade of optometry experience and a strong track record. During externships in three different states, he cared for members of the U.S. military, veterans and the Native American community. He then returned to Virginia, where he spent the next eight years caring for patients with a wide range of ages and conditions.

Dr. Evans welcomes all patients and offers pre-and post-operative care along with specialty contact lens fitting for patients with post-surgical corneas and ocular surface disease. He also specializes in ocular disease diagnosis and helping patients manage anterior and posterior conditions.

Originally inspired to become an eye doctor by his uncle, an academic optometrist, Dr. Evans works to integrate ever-advancing technology with a superior level of patient care. Emphasizing the importance of listening to patients and tailoring treatment to their needs, he particularly appreciates the opportunity to provide “lifetime care.”

Dr. Evans strives to continue learning the latest procedures and techniques and aims to share his knowledge while advocating for community eye health. He has coordinated screenings and conducted educational presentations at local schools, and published articles in health journals and parenting magazines.

Married with two children and two rescue dogs, Dr. Evans enjoys family time, golf and traveling in his leisure.
