About Derek Blaine Clark, DO

Derek B. Clark, D.O., is a family medicine physician specializing in mental health, lifestyle medicine, wellness, diabetes and high blood pressure. Dr. Clark takes pride in forming relationships with his patients and caring for them throughout their lives. 

A homegrown talent, Dr. Clark earned a Bachelor of Science in neuroscience from Christopher Newport University in Newport News and his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He is board certified by the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians. 

Dr. Clark believes a person is more than labs, images and symptoms. He respects his patients’ autonomy in making medical decisions and aspires to be their guide and educator in managing their health. He often reflects on a quote by John Steinbeck that encapsulates his philosophy on the doctor-patient relationship: “What do I want in a doctor? Perhaps more than anything else—a friend with special knowledge.” 

An Eastern Shore native, Dr. Clark loves the area’s sense of community, belonging and purpose. When he’s not at work, he enjoys reading, grilling, playing poker and spending time with his family.
